Cosima Wagner Diaries

early in the morning I write to Richter with full heart, setting before him that his feeling toward me were of no concern, but that, unless he sincerely repents towards R. for having let himself be led astray by idle talk, he shall never again have anything to do with R., as R. had made known to him—though without giving him any such hope. R. surprises me while I write, and after he has read me both letters (Richter’s and his own), I read him mine, which moves him, and of which he says he will demand it back if R. [Richter] does not conduct himself accordingly. –

Arrival of Schuré. a fine article in the “Indépendance Belge” by Brassin [1] – it is sorrowful that the only plain and upright piece upon this glorious time should have appeared in the French tongue! – R. wrote a report to the King,[2] who now sojourns in Paris! (not in Paris, in Reims, that place of coronation of Kings!) Our wedding-day.

[1] Louis Brassin (1840-1884), brother of the Breslau conductor Gerhard Brassin.
[2] RW’s letter of 22nd August, 1875, about the Bayreuth rehearsals with a report on the performances of the participants.
