Sedan celebration [1]—very wet! The children illumine their little chamber in the adjoining house, and delight us continually with their cheerfulness. Walk with R. up to the theatre; in the evening San Marte on “Parcival” [2]. R. arrives at the conviction that the formation of the Grail stood wholly apart from the Church, as though a peaceful severance from it.


[1] “Sedan Day” (also known as “Sedantag” in German) was a holiday celebrated in the German Empire to commemorate the victory in the Battle of Sedan on 2nd September 1870 during the Franco-Prussian War.

[2] San-Marte, pseudonym for Albert Schulz (1802-1893), originally a lawyer, German literature and legend researcher, wrote “Life and Poems of Wolfram von Eschenbach”, 2 vols. 1836-41.
