I would give thanks to Heaven and Earth that they permitted me to come into being, since a mission was allotted to me and I was permitted to fulfil it; I would penitently implore forgiveness for the suffering that has arisen through me; and I would bravely bear that which I have not the courage to utter! Breakfast with the children: birthday candles, cake, singing! R., alas, unwell. — Yesterday he answered a letter from the editor of the Weser Newspaper, who asked him whether he ought not to contradict all the lies spread by the press —

R. says that unless he does it for the honour of the press itself, he may as well let it be, for the press may indeed hinder him, but cannot undermine him, much as it would like to do so. — In the evening read in the “History of the Arabs”.[1]
