From December 5th to the 14th

Cosima Wagner Diaries

Peripeteia in the preparations for the “Lohengrin” performance: R. is positively exhausted by the rehearsals; meanwhile the baseness shown by the press does not cease, and Herr Fürstner is bringing it to court! R. intended to depart after the dress rehearsal (on the 13th), but Director Jauner implored him to remain, whereupon the resolve was altered.

The 14th: christening at the Richters’; the little one is named Richardis Cosima Eva [1]. Pastor Dobner of the Karlskirche, a most genial gentleman, was indescribably delighted to meet with R. In the evening, a dinner at the Hohenlohes’—too many “brilliant people” for it to be truly pleasant.

[1] Richardis, born on December 14, 1875, was the first child of Hans and Marie Richter (née Szitányi); five more children would follow.
