Schopenhauer is now to be hung; R. told me on an earlier occasion that his late friend Hermann Franck[1] had said to him: “Either Germany will become something, or it will not; but if it does, the philosophy of Schopenhauer will be taught in the universities.”
More and more trickery from Messrs. Voltz & Batz — the former charges R. 2 florins per bottle of wine, of which Feustel pays for 42 ! etc….
Made the acquaintance of Count Giech[2] in the evening at Major Schäfer’s house. R. speaks of the significance that the aristocracy could still have for art and for life in general.
